The Wool and Silk Route

The Wool and Silk Route is a 130 km long path that connects Bologna to Prato, crossing the Apennine ridge that divides Emilia Romagna and Tuscany.

This hiking itinerary is characterized by wild nature, history, and genuine hospitality in the Apennine regions. During the journey, you’ll encounter villages with strong identities, horses running freely in ridge meadows, places of memory, life stories, dense forests, and wide valleys. From one side to the other, you can also discover the world of industrial archaeology and water, engines of centuries-old industrious history and tradition. The Via della Lana e della Seta is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural and cultural beauty of these lands, both on foot and by bicycle.

This route follows the ancient trade routes that connected Bologna and Prato. In the Middle Ages, wool and silk were among the main products exchanged between these two cities. Therefore, the Via della Lana e della Seta was an important itinerary for merchants and artisans.

During the journey, you’ll have the opportunity to visit well-preserved medieval villages. Some of these villages have a thousand-year history and are characterized by cobbled streets, towers, and ancient churches.

The Via della Lana e della Seta crosses breathtaking landscapes, including dense forests, ridge meadows, and green valleys. You’ll be able to admire local flora and fauna along the way.
